they can, but since they only speak german with each other and most episodes are filmed backstage and privatly its easier for them to speak in their native language. Imagine you would have to speak in another language all day long when ever there is a camera around you. It would be pretty annoying I guess. I'm assuming its more comfortable and natural for them this way.
