possibly no need to take it in. same problem. select 'software update' from the apple menu, and download SMC software update. so far so good.

The problem is with the temperature sensors. Take it back, they put new heatsink/sensors or give you a new one.

We all are... mine is having this pesky issue too and I hate Apple for not letting us know wtf is going on.

Having the same problem.
Just wondering ... are you using Skype? My problems might have started after installing Skype Vivdeo beta, allthough I'm not sure.

After the SMC update the machine has been normal so far, with no further shutdowns.

Yes, I do have Skype on my machine, but I don't think it is responsible for the shutdown problem, as I was already having it before the video beta came out. Still searching for answers though.

The service centers down in Brazil are not the ones to blame, actually. The problem is that Apple BR does not have parts in stock, so every time a new part is needed it has to be imported from the US, and that takes time. As I normally travel to the US, it is easier (and a lot faster) to just take the machine to an Apple Store and have it fixed there... :-)

Same happened to mine (white, 2ghz, 1gig ram, 100HDD).
Took it to the store, genius bar.
The genius saw it himself, sent it in for diagnosis and most likely repair.
I think it is bad logic board (look at your utilities, and look at your system log). Most likely kernel attack related.
Take it to a store.

Thanks! I'm probably going to the US in about ten days, and I'll certainly take it to an AppleStore to get it fixed. Down here in Brazil it would take at least a couple of months to replace the Logic Board, according to a service center. :(
