Yes, this is the original. It was the "B" side of Vigrass and Osborne's minor hit, Men Of Learning. I discovered it quite by accident when I put the 45 on my turntable on the unintended side. It is still one of those songs which makes me feel like I can fly.
@piano1newbie - the original stands alone ? eh ? This is the original and was a 1972 single . Justin Hayward`s song is from 1978 ! It was originally a Lego advert in 1969 with music by Jeff Wayne & lego jingle words by Vigrass & osbourne but they then wrote the song lyrics for it as well.
@IngeBeca There were many a day when a song was my only friend, and Justin sang many of them - but this was not one of them. Sorry, but Justin put his own mark on the song by doing it differently - The original stands alone - IMO
Wow...This is completey different from The War Of The Worlds version... although it is definalty the same song though, it kind of sounds weird at this speed, i think the slower version in TWOTW is better...
A great duo, Vigrass and Osborne! Yes, Justin Hayward did this song in Jeff Wayne's "War of The Worlds". Interestinly enuff, Jeff Wayne produced VIGRASS & OSBORNE.
I didn't know it until just reciently, that this duo did a song called "Virginia", of which I'd been looking for this song for many years!

Great song but it really needs a great voice like Justin Hayward's to give it life.

Out of all the tens of thousands of songs I've listened to in the past 50 years, *this* is the greatest of them all.
And the whole album, Queues, is in my all-time top ten.
