S H Kapadia has said that Political protection should not be given to corrupt judges and balance has to be struck between judicial independence and the accountability of judges.

Delivering the 5th MC Setalvad memorial lecture in the national capital on Saturday, the chief justice said like other organs the judiciary too should be subjected to fair criticism.

The chief justice also said that it was a challenge to maintain judicial independence while being accountable to the civil society.

He said the challenge before the judiciary is how to respond to unreasonable criticism of the courts.
