I just got a Sony HVR-A1U and wanted to try out some depth of field shots and just creative shots.

The only place I found good to do this was my new house's flowerbed. So here it is

Thanks, There will be more, better stuff to come because I just got a new camera and some education on using it.

  • i like this alot.... but i haded the sony cv-500

  • Thank you :) I couldn't find the CV-500. Does it have a manual focus option? Most times you can do this type of thing with almost any camera. You have to zoom in to increase your depth of feild though. But thanks for the complment.

  • did u use a different lense?

  • Nope. Just used the standard camera. On the shots with the black edges (obviously not the wide screen letter box) but the soft edge matte, i just used an effect.

The lens is just the normal one but I used the macro a few times (zoom all the way in to get a greater depth of field)

  • the quality of the sony FX 7 is look bether...i think...

  • Great video. I have not had much luck doing this with the HVR-A1U, which overall I really like. Were you able to do most of these with the standard equipment? I think I read in the comments where you had a different lens for some of them, but overall you did this as the camera comes out of the box, yes? I need to keep working on it.... I am a novice. Any tips? Thanks and again, cool video.

  • Yes you can use an auto exposure OR manual, but Im in TV broadcasting college program so I never use auto. I don't shoot 24 simply because pull down is just not needed. and what are you shooting that you need 1080P for? One thing to note adjusting your shutter speed requires use of the touch screen. But there is a assign button you can use for white Balance. it works alright, you can turn the view finder to monochrome if you want. saves some battery. the shotgun mic isnt amazing but it works

  • I shot in 30p I believe just the DV format on a regular minidv tape, with manual white, manual focus (obviously)

I used manly long lenses with the hand held feature on (thats why you get the shake but the hand held stability makes a LARGE difference. I was shooting on a stage and i had it off, turned it on and what a difference! Overall good camera, Mics alright but it works awesome to just plug it in. Focus ring is okay but there is no numbers on it, as well no numbers on the exposure of fstop

  • nice
