A video for Brian Lehrer's Uncommon Economic Indicators video contest, straight from Crown Heights. How one man in the neighborhood went from being laid off to turning his kitchen hobby into a viable business. Shot on a Blackberry, so sound is a bit off...
I was walking to Bristen's, a neighborhood brunch spot in Crown Heights, and met Jason Hait, who had set up a little stand for tastings of his homemade sauces. Recently laid off from the Financial District, Jason used his new free time to pursue his dream and to connect with others in the community who were also doing creative projects in lieu of 9-5 jobs a bright spot in the downturn economy for people who lose their jobs and find the time to turn their passion into enterprise.
I like this. I especially like the fact that the other folks are there as he says doing things to keep themselves busy. A small, real. slice of life. Thanks
