i4Energy Center Seminar, Chris Knudsen (PG&E)
Speaker: Chris Knudsen, Director of the Technology Innovation Center, Pacific Gas & Electr
Abstract:
The Obama administration is intending to invest close to 45 billion dollars to address renewable energy and a future Smart Energy Grid that will reduce our dependence on foreign oil. An automated, widely distributed energy delivery network, the Smart Grid, will be characterized by a two-way flow of electricity and information and will be capable of monitoring everything from power plants to customer preferences to individual appliances. It incorporates into the grid the benefits of distributed computing and communications to deliver real-time information and enable the near-instantaneous balance of supply and demand at the device level. Chris Knudsen will discuss the Smart Energy Grid and what Pacific Gas & Electric Company (PG&E) is doing about it. He will also discuss industry standards and the technology that is required to address the challenges and gaps related to the future success of this project.
