...theoretically, "a coin" on the tracks -might possibly strike a resonant frequency- which could crack a trains' wheel...thus creating the condition for a wreck...
However, when I was a kid...we'd even put rr spikes on the rails...trains'd just squish 'em...but, my cousins in Pittsburgh would place window sash-weights on trolley tracks...they definitely de-railed... ...which was...er, their intent to begin with...

Serves her right for laying down on a Railroad track!!!

that was a tram not a train.

You easily have derailed the train by doing this. Easy.

@Hammertin ok

@Kai2oo6 u said a coin could cut the cable, im saying it couldnt, not that the cable stuff is even used anymore, its vacuum or air brake, in which case if the pipes were cut the brakes applie rather than get rid of the brakes
-
@DanielW118 i dont doubt that, what im saying is a coin could not cut the old styles wire cable for brakes, which is phased out anyway, these days if the brake pipe is cut the brakes apply, im saying u cant cut the brakes on a moving train, there is things in place for that kind of thing

@Hammertin Some trains have a safety cable that must be energised at all times to keep the emergency brakes off!!
A coin won't shoot out of the track like tiddlywinks. The train is far too heavy. It'd be like a piece of toast shooting out from under a car tire. It's complete bullshit.

@DelSolSea It's a common myth, no one has ever been killed by a coin on a railroad track nor has a coin derailed a train. I challenge you to find some evidence. It just doesn't make any sense. Trains would be derailing all the time due to all sorts of random shit that can fall on a track. Hell, it's hard to derail a train short of removing part of the track much less a fucking penny or small bit of cotton.
