  • I've been dying my hair, painting my nails, wearing varying degrees of makeup, & ear and other piercings & modifying my body hair for half my life. I was raised almost exclusively by my mother. Now in my 30s my wife works f/t, I'm a stay-at-home dad & a part-time student. I'm more fashion/appearance conscious, I do the shopping, I drive the econobox, she the sporty car–the polar opposite of the traditional gender roles and we couldn't care less. Fuck traditional gender roles.

  • Wow. So clothing is specifically one gender or another... then where do kilts fall in the whole identity thing? Or robes for that matter.

  • 99% of doctors have no idea what gender identity means today. Our knowledge increases but people still learn less of it, and that's sad.

  • @dagda825 lets not forget that when stockings were first invented, they were worn by men.

  • Uh.. boys do wear dresses... Just look in any church and you'll see a priest wearing a dress... or look in the middle east... all the muslim men wear a dress too.

  • Most males act like males. I hate when people play dumb.

  • The reason its for girls is because of the responses it generates when people see it. Just because you look like a woman doesent mean you have to play dumb like one. " Oh he liked my short skirt and pretty pink toes? Gosh i didn't know." Yea fuckin right.

  • I'm not trolling. If I come across as ignorant, it's because I am. I'd appreciate if someone more knowledgeable than me took the time to explain.

  • *Continued* If this is true, the only thing separating men from women is the ability to bear children and an extra orifice with which to take a dick. So which is it? Do women have a predisposition to liking certain things or acting in a certain way or not? If it's not necessary to be a woman in order to look and behave in a certain way then having a child is the only feminine prerogative. In that case gender reassignment surgery seems to be a painful and almost unnecessary cosmetic procedure.

  • I'm confused, a preference for 'girl's things' is often used as proof to support the claim that transgendered people are 'women in men's bodies'. But if we only equate these things with femininity due to social conditioning, then what, apart from genitals, is the difference between a man and a woman? Wouldn't a preop transgendered woman just be a man with a penchant for things which society deems feminine?

  • @Norseman870 The same will be true if the kid ends up more interested in books, science, math or computers than his peers.

  • @edaj84 I painted my nails for a while in college. It didn't make me question my sexuality or gender. I was however amused by the fact that it resulted in an increase in women hitting on me. Apparently some women like it when a guy can empathize with at least some of their concerns about makeup and nail polish.

My mom gave me dolls so I could play with my younger sisters when I was a kid too. All it did was give me more time bonding with my sisters.
