Very nice production. But who would give these young singers an elementary course of Italian pronunciation?
-
The most beautiful staging of opera of all times,
Fine, stylish, pure scenography, costumes either, phantastic singers and marvellous music well performed - should serve as an canon for those who learn how to make an ancient masterpiece contemporary and aeternal.

The greatest opera production on video I have ever seen. For those worried about the nudity that is Human Fraility, huddling by a fire, beaten by cold, sexual temptation, time and fortune or lack thereof.
-
I suppose it would have been. Or they would have worn some sort of "nude costume" (like the dancers in one memorable Christophe Rousset version of "Actéon" (if I remember correctly) - William Christie would have gone full frontal). At least he's never had porn performers like they did in Tannhauser a few years ago.
-
Really? That's very interesting. But was that allowed in his time?
-
Actually in this one case, it is historically correct to have a full frontal. Monteverdi himself specified that l'Umana Fragilità should be ignudo.
-
Musically - a fantastic production. But the staging!!!:-(
Why do modern opera productions find it necessary to have a bit of full frontal nudity, whether or not it's relevant to the plot?

Very nice production indeed, it's all the more special since it is this show which launched Marijana Mijanovic's career. In addition to having one of the most beautiful voice, she also has a very unique stage presence, a fine technique and to top it off, she's stunningly beautiful.
