@jsnsykes You'd be surprised how many good looking tin jobs end up failing. Aluminum soldering doesn't have a burn off oxidization factor like lead or silver. Staying within heat range of the rod is sufficient for a good join. A good looking tin job can hide a cold join just as well as a messy one.

please tell me this is a joke. you might as well wrap it up in tinfoil and put hot water on it. this type of welding is totally sub standard unless you are an artist creating wall hangings.
