I'm set on using the word accurately according to what it means. I suppose you can stretch the meaning of the word to include even that. But "bigotry" also has the implication that the beliefs they are set on holding to are not rational. There's nothing irrational about pointing out that those who oppose gay marriage are bigots. There's literally no other reason for their opposition.

@Mystylplx "Bigot" means someone who is set in their ways regarding their beliefs. The fact that you are so set in your ways that you label anyone disagrees with you a bigot in turn makes you a bigot.

That's the very meaning of the word "bigoted." If there was no rational reason to vote for it (and there wasn't) then bigotry is the only thing left.

Anyone who is against gay marriage is bigoted. That's just a fact. There's no other explanation. This isn't like disagreeing about what the best ice cream flavor is. Opposing gay marriage is pure prejudice and bigotry. That's why the best arguments they can come up with are insane nonsense. There's no RATIONAL reason to oppose gay marriage so that only leaves bigotry.
