BSA should be dismantled, or denied federal funding. No group should be allowed to accept money and deny access to any child. You wouldn't allow your own child to join a group that denied access based on race, or religion, so why let them join one that denies access to some children based on disability?
@boyscout403 he was in my troop im not even jokeing im liget and my best friend was on the hike and his father was the leader and as i herd that he had no signel no wher in the everglades and then the second he got signel he called.the news was over reacting whit everything like they always do on one of the reports said that they were walking in 3 feet deep mud he had no signel an he told the 2 other boys to go on to the ranger station to get help ther was noting he could do.
in my troop we always have a nurse or emt on out trips (there part of my troop)and i get hert on every caming trip and i got dehidrated in summer camp and they took such care of me.
Anyone involved in the BSA knows that sometimes it gets too hot, and sometimes it gets too cold, but what happens in those in-between times is what makes scouting worth while, and why I am a part of the BSA to this day, regardless of incidences that have occurred. I will be praying for the family's loss of a dear son, and I am also praying for the Boy Scout's of America's loss of a clearly dedicated scout.
Are these parents stupid? BSA is about teaching responsibility, being prepared, and basically everything someone would need to know when outdoors. It's not a daycare. If the parents knew he wasn't feeling well they shouldn't have let him go on the hike. And they're suing ALL of BSA for no reason at all.
The BSA teaches us (the boys and leaders alike) to Be Prepared what's more we learn how to recognize and handle such emergencies as heat exhaustion, Heat stroke. I do not know the whole story but the only thing I can fault the leaders for is not calling 911 within minutes of the boy losing consciousness. First Aid for heat related illness is very easy and he should have survived unless there was some other medical reason which was triggered by the heat emergency.
BSA doesn't stand for Baby Sitters of America. It's boy scout scout of America. If the father or mother bother to be involved maybe things like this wouldn't happen. You can't blame others for you lack of interest in your child's life. If you where there on the hike, you won't have to guess of what happened to your son. It makes me mad that people take use something so sad to try to get money and attention.

This entire debate is pointless IMO.
