  • Why do I think that some of the 19th century divas sang with this much character instead of the boring perfection we often hear on modern recordings?

  • "This aria is not for her"? What?! She was the greatest Cenerentola of her generation, packed houses all over Europe. she was a true Rossini singer - big range, warm tone, even throughout. Very rare. She makes Bartoli sound like a chicken about to lay an egg. Thank you for posting this!

  • she was the topmost mezzo-soprano coloratura after Pauline Viardot and Maria Malibran. And one needs not compare her with Bartoli to see that Cecilia is over trying to sing like a coloratura.

  • @petrof4056 in child birth.shame.

  • One of the greatest Rossini interpreters, if not the greatest. Such a lovely, flexible, fresh voice, such joie de vivre... and the vibrato may not be to everyone's taste but it fits here somehow. I love her.

  • Charm, fantasy, taste, and a strong technique to support all that artistry....And, an artist creating/re-creating a character, a believable one.... I don't get the feeling that she is pleasing herself with this interpretation, but the music, and the character.

The vibrato which affects people here, stupidly, I must say, is given to this period, and doesn't bother the artistry with which the aria is delivered.

  • Mi fo guidaaaaaaaaaaaaaar hm ma!

(Who wouldn't fall at her feet?)

  • @themfromspace Seeing comments like yours about this rendition hurts my eyes.
