A short film of the Little Leap Forward show by Horse + Bamboo Theatre, 2009, based on the book by Guo Yue and Clare Farrow and published by Barefoot Books. Set in Revolutionary China, the story is about a young boy growing up amidst the Cultural Revolution, and the events that set him on the road to becoming a great bamboo flute player. Show devised and directed by Alison Duddle, film by Steff Lee, music by Loz Kaye, and design and filming by Bob Frith.

The opening scene reminded me of Lotte Reineger's work. Interesting the fervor of a red book, a flag, symbols that strangle the individual...It all boils down to the mob mentality!
