Show how to create a custom map using Oregon 450 (also works on Oregon 300, 400, 450t, 500/550, and possibily Colorado)

1) Find any map, save to jpg
2) Start Google Earth
3) Add - Image Overlay (Shift-CTRL O)
4) Connect Garmin Oregon
5) Save to /Garmin/CustomMap

You can use...
Historial Map, Zoo Map, tourist map... etc

  • Can you import a .KML file into a Oregon 450?

  • @supra619 In theory yes. BaseCamp support import of .KLM file directly. So import into BaseCamp then upload to your Oregon 450.... But in reality BaseCamp is a bit buggy in importing, sometimes it error out without telling you why.... But if you are determine enough, you should be able to do it eventually (with some text editing of the .KML file)

  • dear frnd thank u very much it served my very purpose, as i have to demarcate some plots on the ground on urgent basis using garmin oregon 550

  • very informative video. thankyou.

  • This is a complicated way. It is easier to use the Russian program SAS Planet.

  • Great video. I learned a lot. ty :)

  • @jblackrupert but it's cheaper at the DiscoverGPS store in Burnaby.

  • @jblackrupert yep, thats the one.

  • @VancouverDriver

Don't you mean "Backroad mapbook"? backroadmapbooks D O T com

  • My Oregon 450 says "Image too big" and does not load the custom map. Apparently Oregon will not take more than 1024x1024 size JPG images within the KMZ. Any video instructions on how to use MAPC2MAPC or other tools to deal with this limitation would be greatly appreciated.
