When an exercise has "military" in its name, then you know it's serious.

To complete this How-To you will need:

A barbell
A padded seat with a padded back
Additional weight plates (optional)

Step 1: Hold barbell at chest height

Hold the barbell at chest height with your hands slightly wider than shoulder width apart.

Step 2: Sit down

Carefully sit down, pressing your butt and shoulders back into the chair and positioning your feet flat on the floor.

Tip: To target more torso muscles, sit on a bench or inflatable exercise ball—just make sure to use a lighter weight.

Step 3: Press barbell up overhead

Keep your head back as you press the barbell up overhead until your arms are nearly straight.

Step 4: Lower bar

Slowly lower the bar back to your chest.

Tip: Use a spotter to relieve you of the barbell after you finish a set, otherwise you may end up stuck in your seat.

Step 5: Repeat

Do three sets of eight reps to start, and add weight as you get stronger. Given the rigor of this lift, that shouldn't take too long.

  • You shouldn't bring the bar down as far as he did. Bring it down until your elbows form a 90 degree angle. Any farther won't give you a better workout and will only increase your chance of injury.

  • 1 star. (shaking my head in disbelief) Poor form (did you see how he brought the BB down past his armpits? That'll wreck your back). Can't do this exercise heavy without a rack or a spotter. If you MUST do this alone its better to clean the bar to your chest and do the reps while standing OR if you can't do that, then you can switch over to a seated dumb bell shoulder press. That allows you to go heavy and its much safer to perform solo than using a barbell.

  • Thank you for the trivia at the end... the only potential correct thing in this video -_-

  • Can't quite tell if troll video or not. My potential like/dislike depends on it.

  • Lol He said butt! :P

  • i hope he did not get paid for this. a little research about proper form couldn't have hurt...yikes.

  • @bglad4life he is showing people what spotting is jsut incase they dont know what it is.

  • don't listen to this guy, he doesn't even look like hes spent a day at the gym.

  • I'm a 15 year old girl in the military and the way he saluted they'de kill him for smiling while saluting. They just insulted our enviorment while saluting with a smile and without uniform.

It's fine when its about jokes but not this way.

  • If I lowered 135 lb that much low my elbows would be gone

  • He says to go down to your chest but at 1:03 he goes down to like his stomach.
