BLOOMFIELD TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WJBK) - "I think most people, if you ask them, they would say she was a hard worker, good person, and did all the things she's supposed to do," said Paulette Bouyer.

She is the good neighbor who left Detroit because the neighborhood around her had gone bad.

"I left Detroit, not because I wanted to, because I had to," Bouyer told FOX 2 more than three months ago.

She worked a life in the factories, saved her money and invested in properties in the city. You can guess what happened to those investments.

And then someone broke into her house in broad daylight.

"I had to get a gun. Isn't that awful?" she said.

So, fed up, broke, her property worth nothing, Bouyer picked up and moved to Oakland County to the posh suburbs. She found out she couldn't afford it.

It was 95 degrees on Wednesday, but Bouyer had the air conditioning off -- behind on payments to the power company, which was threatening to pull the plug.

"It's $816. That's what they want," she said.

Grasping for straws, Bouyer called FOX 2's Charlie LeDuff.

"It would be a blessing to get some help, but I know it's hard for people to come through when they're going to do things like that. I mean, I don't know who's going to show up. The piggy bank is broke," she said.

LeDuff says he has grown to love this woman. She's given so much to so many others and now she deserved help, so he made a call to the best people he knows -- The Heat and Warmth Fund.

"On behalf of THAW, we want to let you know that we sincerely know what you're going through and we're willing to assist you," said Deloris Cortez with THAW told Bouyer.

"Thank you from the bottom of my heart," she responded.

  • The News Report didn't say that she has 2 working college educated adult Sons. It's a shame they left their Mother hanging!
