The ritual of Dia de Los Muertos, (Day of the Dead), has been celebrated in Mexico for more than 3,000 years, and has also reached to Central America and the United States. It involves creating personal altars for loved ones who have died, in homes and in the community at large, that are brightly decorated with flowers, candles, sugar skulls, mementos, the person's favorite food and sometimes their picture, thus honoring them and keeping their memory alive
