Music is Burnin' for You by the Blue Oyster Cult.

Listed with the consists are the times in the video they appear in case you want to skip ahead.

On Tuesday morning, we left for Wabash and stopped in Roseburg, about 5 miles east of Swayzee. I knew it used to have wigwag signals, but they had supposedly been stolen a few years ago. Then we stopped in Sweetser, where two passenger cars and a caboose were at a local trail, along with an old crossing signal.

At about 10 AM, we reached Wabash and saw these trains:

10:00 AM at N. Miami Street
WB Mixed Freight
NS 9880 (C40-9W) With a P5
NS 9099 (C40-9W)
UP 5048 (SD70M)
Starts at 01:10

10:30 AM at Thorne Street
EB Autorack train
NS 9119 (C40-9W) with a strange K5LA
NS 9401 (C40-9W)
Starts at 02:32

1:00 PM in the Wabash City Park
EB Mixed Freight
NS 9276 (C40-9W) with a P5
NS 8818 (C40-9)
NS 9425 (C40-9W)
Starts at 03:57

1:17 PM near E Hill Street on the east edge of town
WB Roadrailer train
NS 7561 (ES40DC) with an unusually great sounding K5HL
NS 8722 (C40-8)
Starts at 04:32

2:25 PM between N Allen and N Spring Streets
EB Mixed freight
NS 9486 (C40-9W) Possibly one of the best K5LAs I've ever heard!
NS 9047 (C40-9W)
A really old Milwaukee Road hopper was on this consist.
Starts at 05:35

Then we head back home to Tipton, where we ride our bikes along the old IMC line south of State Rd 28. A rusty semaphore with no more power supply lies very close to the MP 39 marker. We also took a look at the old Nickel Plate Road trestle, and find out that the rail on the east side of the track is dated all the way back to 1918 (the same year NKP 587 was built). I added a squirrel we saw on our bike ride at the end just for the heck of it, mostly because I liked how it was standing up.

  • Nice video man! I love going to Wabash. Another good spot to railfan is in the small town of Sidney. Try it out sometime...theres a nice MOW spur there too. Sometimes has some equiptment on it.

  • That roadrailer was 267, nice job catching it! Me and my friend saw it leave Decatur earlier tonight.
