Strap in with driver John Cassidy and codriver Jennifer Daly as they attack the Climb to the Clouds 2011. The oldest motorsport event in the United States, the climb up Mt. Washington is a challenge like no other.
The team took 2nd in the R1 AWD rally class and finished 17th overall. Thanks for riding along!
Note: The GoPro cameras don't offer good audio capture. As we say in rally, "it is what it is!"
@TheTrucker99 Thanks for checking it out! It was a great honor to race the mountain and be a part of it. We've heard it's on for 2013. If it is, hopefully we can see if we can get up there a bit quicker! John

@Burgman650 I can't comment about why the road is gravel, but I think it's due to severe snowpack there that makes paving impractical. Once the tarmac tires are hot and sticky, the grip is pretty good at the "5 mile grade."
It's definitely a disconcerting, because the exposure is, "significant," on the driver's side of the car on that section.

Great video. I do have one question that has always been on my mind with this event. Why does it transition from pavemant (tarmac), to dirt for a distance ,and then back to tarmac??? Seems this would make tire choice difficult? ( Or maybe not?). My feeling would be that a rally driver, like yourself, would be best suited for the event with the change of the surface. :-)
