I remember watching this (like the rest of you) on HBO during a summer afternoon. I was 8 years old. My cousins said I would turn to steam in an instant after the Russians nuked us. I spent the rest of my childhood aware that I could be vaporized in an instant. Humanity with nuclear weapons is like a depressive who spends the moments of his life with a loaded gun pressed against the temple, waiting for the lowest moment of despair to pull the trigger.

If you're far enough outside the blast zone, and can find a fallout shelter (or even make an expedient one, which you may or may not have the time to do, but probably would have the time), you simply wait 2 weeks (better have water, food, a bucket in which to poop, and lots of plastic bags for sanitary reasons), and the radioactivity of the fallout would have decayed to a safe level.

Then all you need do is find drinkable water and food in a post-nuclear world - fun, huh?
