@UrbanCombatMMA if you can get 1 point of contact, you can get 2-- that is, if your goal is to control the knife. My point in mentioning punching/choking was that there was no emphasis in protecting the head or neck. By pulling the knife-hand and breaking his center of balance your head could purposefully be brought to the chin, trying to protect them with at least the shoulder. If i have 2 hands on his knife and his live hand or forearm stops the blood to my brain... what's a bigger threat?

Needs work man. Chasing the knife means death. Grabbing the wrist with 2 hands is still only 1 point of contact. Get 2 points of contact (perhaps wrist and elbow) & isolate it if your aim is to control that knife-hand and then instantly go for a mount-escape. Also, you can't forget that his live-hand wont only go for the switch-- he'll be punching, grabbing at the throat, etc. Same goes for when you escape the mount, he wont just lay there, he's fighting for his life too now.

@GuardianSelfDefense1 J-man, they need to break out the white tee shirts and red markers. Do their thing and then count the red slashes.

Not too bad but I think you need to expand your knowledge of knife defense a bit. Catching, grabbing or trying to hold the knife arm is a bit of a dangerous concept. Check out Russian Systema. Particularly the work of Kevin Secours.

What is this shit? They should call it how to die like a prick
You are correct, grabbing the knife hand when standing is very difficult under adrenalin stress because the weapon moves so quickly. The only time we attempt to control the weapon is when we are on the ground. The reason is simple, if your attacker has any kind of ground fighting experience, they will keep good base and posture from where they can stab you multiple times. Grabbing the blade gives you a momentary window to escape without taking to many stabs. Either way the knife is bad news!

@UrbanCombatMMA Thanks for the comments. We have found that just trapping the wrist is hard enough when the opponent is fully resisting and the adrenaline is flowing. Going for a second point of contact is great, if you can catch it. Some times you can, and some times you can't. I like your point about having the attacker also punch/choke as they attack. We learned that you can't block punches and the knife effectively at the same time. You have to focus on the biggest threat - the knife!
