you're certainly right, I've seen the masterclass as well as 'the oven song' but any I repeat any musician needs to do some practice now and then, elton is maybe the greatest living musician with a sensitivity and a feeling form melody and harmony rare to find. and hard to maintain... (see The Fox...) so, I think that he too has to do some practicing. And still remains the biggest.
Search you tube for the 1971 Live BBC version. It actually includes the "missing" verse.
From what I understand about Elton's and Bernie's writing approach was that Bernie put down the words and only then would Elton write the tune. It certainly doesn't seem that Elton needed any 'technical exercises.' Search you tube for "Elton ITAS Masterclass" or "Elton John Cooker Song" and you'll see.
the added verse is what composers write usually for first and provides just technical exercise for the musician to write music around it, it is formed by short and close words with the accent on the strong beat. that's why in many demos we have the 'added verses'. thus it is not added: it is written for first. bye
my favorite EJ song as a demo :) ahhhhhhhhh, magical.

Bootlegs exist of Elton performing the missing verse live, so I don't know about lawsuits..
It's amazing how the "Madman.." songs reatin their power, even without all the production.

I don't think that's true because there are live versions of this song which include the 3rd verse.
