The Hennepin County Board of Commissioners needs to fill a vacancy on the Lower Minnesota River Watershed District Board and they're seeking volunteers for the job.

Applicants may not be a public officer at the county, state or federal level. Board members are appointed for three year terms.

Interviews will be held at the next County Board Libraries, Technology and General Government Committee meeting.

The Eden Prairie Fire Department has promoted Ward Parker to assistant chief in charge of emergency preparedness. He began his new duties Jan. 15. Parker had been a lieutenant since 2003, and he started with the department in 1999.

An Albertville man has been charged with fleeing police in a motor vehicle, a felony, after he allegedly led police on a high speed chase on New Years Eve.

Christopher Michael Mevissen fled from Eden Prairie Police in a Dodge Intrepid when they attempted to stop him on Dec. 31 at about 4 p.m. near Valley View Road and Dell Road, a complaint filed against him in Hennepin County District Court alleges.

Officers on routine patrol were notified that Mevissen was a suspect in a domestic assault and tried to stop him. Mevissen pulled his car to the right briefly before speeding away from police and zig-zagging through traffic at an estimated 100 miles per hour, according to the complaint.

Mevissen eventually he lost control of his vehicle and spun out at the intersection of Vernon Drive and Interlachen Boulevard. He was apprehended after a fleeing the scene on foot, the complaint alleges.

Mevissen faces three years and one day in prison if convicted.
