  • Maybe I'm alone in this, but my problems with the Confederate flag reaches beyond simple racism. It is a symbol of a time when the greatest nation in the world turned it's guns on itself and nearly destroyed itself. The Civil War is the single ugliest moment in our nation's history and literally turned family members against each other in blood. The Confederate flag is inextricably tied to it for eternity. We can't forget it, but we don't have to give it a place of honor either.

  • I've been reading some of the comments here and I have to say that, while I have my own opinions about the subject, I just think it's cool that a show that was canceled years ago can still be relevant enough to create a dialogue about this issue. I think that's a really good thing.

  • No wonder this show is no longer on the air.

  • @taytay73160 Oh, please. How people choose to use the American flag is not the same as the flag that was flown over the states that broke off from the US and waged war against it in order to keep slavery in place. It's not the same as a flag that was flown by states in opposition to desegregation. It's not the same as a symbol that says that hideous part of our nation's history will rise again. It's a ridiculous comparison. The Confederate flag is a symbol of rebellion and hate. Period.

  • @bornbillsmith Wrong, you are putting words in my mouth. It is simple, go take a Geritol, change your Depends and listen. BY LAW (the Constitution) They were not citizens OR free people, they were property. Done, you lose.

  • @svvmichaIt's the other way around.

l1They were considererd less then human and property and then weren't given the rights of citizenship.

Your point makes no sence as there were other people who in this country who weren't citizens but were not considered property and therefore were never enslaved.

  • @bornbillsmith I did use the computer one time but that was only to find the name of the action that denied due cause to black people.

I didn't remember it was the Dred Scott decision.

I think to make that argument using a memory from a class I took 45 years ago is pretty good.

My history teacher will be proud.even if you are not.

  • @svvmichael1 Both slavery and the Holocaust happened because some people were labeled as something less then human and therefore it was O.K.tov either kill them or enslave them.

Blacks were both killed and enslaved in the south and Jews were killed and also enslaved in Germany.

    You really see no difference.

I'm getting tired of you calling me an idiot

I've showed. a pretty good knowledge and understanding of the U.S. constitution..

  • @bornbillsmith 1) Slavery and the holocaust are completely different. Anyone trying to put them together is an idiot. Slavery was started by BLACK tribal chiefs who convinced Europeans to take their prisoners. You failed her, and failed badly. Your debating ability is terrible. 2) Slavery is the worst thing that happened to the USA. Without it we'd have very little strife or crime in this country. There would be no racial division since we'd be a nearly homogeneous country like northern europe.

  • @svvmichael1

I'm jewish and my grand mother lost her sisters amnd brothers in the holocaust.

I wonder what you would have done if you were a German.

I wonder what you would do with the Natzi flag after all all the Germans wanted was what belonged to them and Jews were non people so it was O.K. to slaughter them.

Because the holocaust and slavery are exactly the same when you boil it down to its essence.then what you say about one of those two also applies to the other one as well/

  • @svvmichael1

So if the supreme Court stated day was night and night was day you would agree with them .

Your argument is dependent on the south fighting for states rights because the constitution doesn't give the federal government the right to outlaw slavery and that the constitution has to be amended can outlaw slavery...

Lets say Lincoln was able to get this amendment passed and slavery was ended.

Do you really think the south would have gone along and would not have seceded.

  • @bornbillsmith Well, I have no desire to talk to an idiot. I already beat you. One last time, and I'm done fool, maybe you can learn. In 1850's, they were not persons under law. The Supreme Court even ruled so. Therefore, not entitled to due process. Congress didn't have the power to simply pass a law to change it, a constitutional amendment was needed. But the North was not patient and tried to break the law. Oh, well. That makes you a racist SOB, and a poor excuse for a human. bye.
