@nickthed69 The bulk of the United States military is slowly shifting toward the metric system, simply to reduce confusion. As nearly all operations now are carried out jointly with other NATO countries, and most of those rely on the metric system, it's just a matter of everyone speaking the same language. I imagine that it takes some getting used to, especially with nothing(or almost nothing) in civilian life in the States done metrically.

Why would the insurgents go toe-to-toe with a conventional military? I mean they do it, but I would think that SOME of them would have common sense.

@TheCollinLEfty if you read the book, Evan commented that these insurgents actually try to hide behind a bunch of eucalyptus trees, which the Marines had no problem shooting. They tried to use darkness but underestimated the Marine NODs.
In short, Evan commented that these insurgents got their guerrilla tactics straight from a movie or something.
Which is probably what would happen if today American teenagers need to repel a Red Dawn invasion.
