This is an ungrouted version of Castle Stone.

Lots of hand grinding and fitting cuz the 'interlocking' design for ungrouted applications is complete bullshit. In addition, the thickness consistency was so bad I had to grind the backs off half of them to keep the faces close to flush.

Outside corners don't exist for this application so I had to miter them.

The 2 x 4 in the middle is a spacer for a cantilevered wood mantle that slips into the slot.

There is a flaw in the layout, if you notice it, cuz the homeowner....well, I won't get into that.

I don't like the skirt on the front of the hearth either, but that's another homeowner story.

All in all he was happy with it.
