He sounds a bit out of breath, I wonder why? :)
In his book, Krakauer says that if you could be plucked from sea level and dropped on the summit, you'd be unconscious in seconds and dead in minutes, such is the low level of oxygen at that altitude. Only after weeks of acclimation can climbers survive without bottled oxygen.
