@Henzzman Still faster, old american cars were garbage. The original (production ended in 84) 1.8 8 valve GTi and jetta GLi were faster than the 1974 5.7L V8 GTO. In a strait line, 0-60, 1/4 mile, and would run circles around it on a track.
I had an '85. Run away while you can! Seriously though, lots of problems. It left me stranded on the highway once 250 miles away from home and 20 miles away from the nearest town, on Christmas Eve nonetheless. Handling and ride were graet though...

Uh, no salty sea, the problem was the 2.0 (should have bought the 1.8). I now have a 1.9 tdi with 145k, AND NO PROBLEMS...hmmm....
