When I was searching for an HD video camera to purchase, I kept coming back to the Sony AVCHD brand. I had good luck with using one of their still cameras before and had decided it was time for an upgrade. I spent several months researching the different types of cameras that I could use. The one difficulty that I had when doing this research though, was the need to know what video quality a Sony AVCHD video camera would offer. After scouring the internet I ended up with nothing. But I took a leap of faith and purchased a HDR-UX1 model from their AVCHD lineup. It ended up being a very good camera. =)
In my desire to fix what has gone wrong before I have decided to create several (18 to be precise), test videos with my new camera. By doing this, you will hopefully be able to see the quality that an HD camera can offer. All of the video links and descriptions will be available at http://whoismatt.com.

Also, I will upload two streaming 720p versions to vimeo which you can find at http://www.vimeo.com/hdquality.

Having all of this information is what I would have wanted when I was buying an HD camera.

  • You seem to seek quality video, but take a look at your lighting--you have a bright outdoor background, but your face is in shadow with no illumination at all. Good videography is all about lighting. Move the cam so you don't get the outside light in the shot, and put some light on your face. Otherwise, your intent is good.

  • your recording goes blury for a sec.

  • Here's an idea - use a Kodak Zi8 with fixed focus lens and fast and easy upload to YouTube - a no brainer!

  • is it a bad a camera? and can it record to the pro duo cards?

  • You should try more light and less auto focus next time ;) hehe! good video tho cheers!

  • @robblac the files aren't huge - they're the smallest you'll find HD in... but the processing takes crazy power because it's compressed file.

  • geek, nerd, fuzzy chin...... i have no idea what you said.... this is something only my uncle juan will know. -_-
