OMG before the lynch mob assembles, you knock the prey animal out before feeding it because it'd more humane. A quick knock to the head you don't feel, or slowly suffocated by a snake....I know which way I'd rather die! It also is to protect the snake. A rat and rabbit will defend themselves, bite and scratch...possibley kill the snake. I know it's hard to stomach, but snakes need to eat too.
