In my opinion what I would like to see on him is him letting it all grow. All he would need to do is make sure his neck line is evenly shaved. I have seen guys not trim and it looks awful growing down their neck.

I think he just needs to shave up it up a little more if he is going for just the mustache. But really it does not matter what we think. His girlfriend most likely likes it just the way it is and he is more that likely going with what she likes.
