Owyhee is pronounced "Oh-Why-he" and sometimes like "oh-wah-he" by yuppies, but definitely not "ow-whuh-he". The Owyhee mountains are located in Idaho, Oregon, and Nevada, and they got their name from the way Europeans used to say Hawaii. The river and mountains are named after some Hawaiian explorers who disappeared there while on a fur-trapping expedition in the early 1800's.
