Australia is a comparatively young nation, but Perth itself was first visited by a Dutch expedition in the late 1600's. It was then that the river was named Swan River due to the abundance of black swans. Perth is the westernmost city in Australia, abutting the Indian ocean. It is a major port, as well as a cosmopolitan city. Opera, ballet, symphony and theater are readily available, along with folk, rock and jazz venues. Perth is also well known for its sports, fielding numerous football, rugby, cricket and even lacrosse and basketball teams, from the professional level down to grade school. As the working port area, Fremantle, 12 miles down river, is considered the second heart of Perth and is a popular weekend haven for dining, shopping and sailing. A restoration of Victorian warehouses in the 1980's has turned Fremantle into a 19th century seaport, a charming and picturesque trip into the past. Being so distant from the other major Australian cities, simply means that Perth/Fremantle has to be self contained, and it is. Great shopping and dining, cool nightclubs, and magnificent beaches are all to be found in this westernmost population center of Australia. Given the weather, similar to California, there are many outdoor concerts and events. And, of course a cruise on the Swan River is a must. If you are into roughing it, Pert/Fremantle is also the starting point for explorations to the western Australian bush. You can enjoy all the wonderful features of Perth/Fremantle without roughing it, with your Perth/Fremantle Multimedia Postcard.

  • I live in Fremantle but have no idea what ' less yank weather' is and it's not a Perth suburb. I see you're from Germany, which may explain why you don't know that or how many successful musicians, artists and writers originate from WA and especially Fremantle. Like the videomaker I don't equate 'culture' with 'excitement' so we're obviously looking for different things - I see your Favourites include a pole-dance.

Thanks for making the video - it's really clever.

  • Bollocks.

Perth and the suburb of Fremantle happens to be one of the most Un-Happening places on the planet. The weather is nice (although less yank and more Mediterranean. Thats why is called Mediterranean Weather)but lacking any form of culture of its own. Perth is a great place to make you appreciate exciting cities. It provides a good contrast!

BTW You got it right the first time - FrEmantle. Not FrEEmantle.
