artfuture :: Zou Ren Ti and "Zou Ren Ti" Simulated Robot

(Chinese/English). Interview with Zou Ten Ri at RoboGames in San Francisco on June 16, 2007. He is head of Xi'an Superman Sculpture Research Institute (XSM) in China which creates simulated android robots which are difficult to differentiate from humans at a first glance. They are similar to Duane Hansen's static sculptures in the 1970's, but with animation added. The institute's creations are on display in over 130 museums throughout Asia. (Thanks to his daughter for translating during the interview!) For U.S. TV viewers, he and the robot are scheduled to be on Jimmy Kimmel Live! on Tuesday, June 19.

I have 2 things to say on this video; for one, I noticed that the android was not moving at all, so it may just be a perfect, life-sized model of Renti. Secondly, maybe he dug up his dead twin and stuffed him.

If they just add stereo mics so the eyes and head turn towards whoever is talking, the life-likeness would improve greatly. Also, I would program it to detect laughter and join in when it "hears" laughter or "sees" smiles. Simple programming. ;)
