Engine knock / timing chain tick

Update: Turns out it was the water pump that failed. Bearing was loose, and once replaced, no more sound!

  • I took the mechanical fan out and replaced it with a Ford Taurus fan. Worked great, never overheated in traffic.

  • My '93 Cherokee is making this same noise, I thought it might be piston slap in cylinder 1. Gonna replace it Saturday, hopefully that clears the issue. How tough was the job?

  • My 95 is doing the same I bought a water pump hopefully it fixes it

  • THAT SOUND!?! That was a water pump! I own a 92 Cherokee Laredo and it runs great but I cant imagine that to be a water pump.... but if thats what it was then Im amazed.

  • wheres ur secondary fan?!?! does it ever over heat?

  • Sounds like it. It may not be leaking, but the bearings are going out.

  • Check your water pump?
