A 400 hp LTD with 2.75:1 gearing? You got yourself a potential high-speed cruiser there dude! Don't chuck the old transmission entirely, man. =)

If the video comes out that I sent, it's the fourth one of these cars I've owned since 1985 and this is the nicest. They have all been 460's with 2.5 axles. Like you say, they have tremendous off the line torque and even in this heavy car it can get up and go. The '70-'72 full-size Fords are my favorite of that make, but only if they have a 390 or larger--351s and 302's are gutless. I had a '72 Mercury Marquis with a 460 and a 2.75 as well between my second & third 77's.

Wow love the car you have there!

Great acceleration!! I love that fantastic sound, like no other.. you know, my dad has a '71 LTD but it has been parked for 10 years, and know it is hard to revive it, 'cause it seems to b that the crankshaft is stuck, the motor will not start then :/

@chinchillawrangler LMFAO... The car just spins, so until I get better tires on it I am left with rolling starts so people can get an idea if the car's power. If the car were to hook, it's 0-60 with the current 3.70 gear would be in the 6-7 second range.

Do you have anything done to the trans? The transmission should easily handle that since it handled 485 ft lbs from the 429 with a soft shift, should handle 530 with a shift kit in it. I have a 78 f250 521 stroker in front of a c6 that came with the detuned 400 in front of it, late 70s emissions stuff. It has been eaten up by the 521, Im planning on putting a 4 speed in. Or if i can find a transmission out of a late 60s/ early 70s ford I would use it, but who can you trust to say its still good.

Nothing done to the transmission. In fact, it has 230k miles on it, as does the rest of the car. It dosent slip, and shifts quick and firm still. If you are easy on it, it short shifts... putting around town it's in 3rd at only 20-25 mph. Kickdown is still lightning quick to respond.

Man you hit that dead on the spot I couldnt have said any of that better myself. Those cars do float bad and its def not worth it, Haha yeah very true about when holding it in 2nd gear I know in my 1970 mercury with a stock 429 with 2.75 gear it ran 112mph before it blew lucky I had no block damage but definitely a scary ride at that speed . I just love the way they pull in 1st and 2nd gear also just winding them up and backing out of them after about 80 there is nothing like that sound .

@wademizester Hopefully within a month I will install and experiment with this 3.50 gear I have in my garage and a mini-spool. We will see how it moves with that ratio in it. I have to find a orange 20-tooth gear for the speedometer also. I'll post something when I'm done!!
