Les Dawson stars in the hugely popular variety show SEZ LES VOLUME TWO (PG), out on DVD on 25th May.
This 3-disc volume consists of the complete fifth and sixth series.
The seven-year-long running show firmly established Les Dawsons reputation bringing his dour, miserabilist humour to millions. Among the gems in this set are the advent of catastrophic superhero Superflop, some wonderful, rambling monologues and the usual awful piano playing!
Star turns come from Sandie Shaw, Roy Orbison, Rod Hull, Roy Barraclough (who complete with headscarf and heaving bosom would join Les as the other half of Cissie and Ada), Brian Glover, Arthur English, Aimi MacDonald and Stephen Lewis (Blakey from On The Buses).
Les Dawson self-deprecating humour and enduringly bleak humour, coupled with a world-weary delivery honed in the working mens clubs of northern England, made him one of Britains best-loved comedians.
the guy is hilarious, as a kid his out of tune piano would have me in stitches.
This clip is fresh, works just as well now as then. I could see reeves and mortimer doing something similar.

OK, so I guess the laughter track was not live but rather he walks around another girl hiding there before they cut to an obviously later recorded prop scene. I guess the audience wouldn't have got the joke it they could already see all the steps too. Still, they don't do it like that any more, a recorded show on a stage with no audience.

Huh?? How the hell did they do that? And back then even?! Not only that hand coming from nowhere but that giant set built for only a ten second joke?? The mind boggles...............
