This is a short slideshow with photos I took while on Mackinac Island, Michigan of The Grand hotel. It is the luxurious hotel featured in the movie "Somewhere In Time" from 1980 with Christopher Reeve as Richard Collier, Jane Seymour as Elise McKenna, and Christopher Plummer as William Fawcett Robinson. I hope you enjoy it!

"Beyond fantasy. Beyond obsession. Beyond time itself... he will find her."

  • this hotel is beautiful, when is the best time to go, summer or fall.

  • I would have to guess the summer would be. Fall would be beautiful too, with the leave turning all colors. We went in July ourselves.

  • EXCELLENT Photography!! You should have won a Pulitzer! Fantastic photographs of a VERY beautiful hotel!! I want to go there next July with my husband to celebrate our 25th wedding anniversary! Did you see the plaque that they have there to commemorate the film? I saw another video of it but it doesn't really look like it is in the actual location that they were at...hmmm. Well thanks SO MUCH for posting and taking your time for us to see your photographs!! :)

  • And also, I suggest one day, you rent a few of their bikes and tour the rest of the island that way. I regret not being there long enough to see more of the sights there is to see on Mackinac Island. Rent a horse carriage ride also, if you have the time and expenses. And of course, treat yourself to some fudge down in the town. Yummy!

And.... If you need a personal photographer to capture photos and video footage of your stay, my services can always be had for at a reasonable price! ha ha

  • I don't recall Sigourney Weaver ever being in this film. I have never even heard of it. I will have to check it out online

  • I had it wrong first. I meant to type Jane Seymour, not Sigourney Weaver. Sorry for the confusion.

  • Another movie that was filmed there was This Time For Keeps, a musical from the 1940s. I've stayed at the Grand twice, once when I was three and then this past summer. It's definitely a different experience, but wonderful.

  • my compliments

  • wow it gives some memories of the film "somewhere in time"! i love it so much!

  • i go here every year, ever since i was 3, but every year as i got into my teens, people started wearing jeans and un-formal clothing to dinner... sad how they will let just about any in now days....

  • Thank you kindly to the praise you gave me. I hope you have a "Grand" time there on your 25th wedding anniversary. Unfortunately, we did not pay the $12.00 to go inside the hotel. If you are not staying a guest, it is $12.00 to tour the hotel. So I did not see the plaque you are referring to. I would suggest you bring "Somewhere In Time" with you on DVD and watch it one of your nights there.
