Brought to you by CollegiateShag.com - This 1942 features a music number by the Merry Macs and Ella Fitzgerald. This film brings together "Harlem" Lindy Hoppers and Hollywood Lindy Hoppers, including Dean Collins and Jewel McGowan. Look for Ray Hisch and his partner doing collegiate shag around the 2:00 mark.

  • This is a wonderful post! The Merry Macs inspired The Moderaires and Six Hits & A Miss among many others from that era. The pretty lady vocalist is Mary Lou Cook. After this film was made she was replaced by Marjory Garland. The youngest of the McMichael brothers was killed in WWII in 1944. Don Raye (Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy) & Gene de Paul wrote the songs for the movie. This is a real treasure. Thank you for sharing it. Cheers!

  • I'm glad that someone finally posted this great clip. And Playedback is correct - the vocal group is The Merry Macs, not the Pied Pipers. Thanks so much for posting!

  • @2:24 1940s swagger

  • Great clip. Dean and Jewel make some terrific moves right at the end. Would love to have seen more of them. Can we do a second take?

  • Great swinging number, thanks for sharing! The song is called Rockin' and reelin', but it's actually not The Pied Pipers singing there, but The Merry Macs :-)
