Shearing is localized in the two zones near the top and bottom of the field. In these zones, subvertical alignment of subgrain boundaries can be seen. At the end, the upper zone consists, at least in terms of the c-axis orientations, nearly a single grain, which resembles quartz ribbons.
This is one of 15 time-lapse movies linked to this page (http://www.albany.edu/geosciences/wdm/wdmoviep.html), which show the experimental deformation or post-deformation behaviour of octachloropropane (C3Cl8). Most of the experiments in this group were performed during December 1995, when JHR was visiting Albany. Feel free to download these movies for teaching.
