Israel denies settlement expansion -- 03 September 2008

Ehud Barak, the Israeli defence minister, has denied that Israel is expanding its settlements and defended his government's policy of not allowing Palestinian refugees to return home.

He speaks exclusively to Al Jazeera's Jacky Rowland.

@neverfearchrisishere I have been to Israel numerous times and have never witnessed any of the things you referenced. And if Israel has to exercise an abundance of caution it been shown to be necessary by past events and present threats. What is your source for the relgious study "welfare?" Arabs receive preferential treatment for college admissions, pay less, if any, taxes, and are exempt from the military service that is mandatory for all other citizens.

@JerrySPsy Those Arabs who were willing to live in peace in Israel do so as equal citizens Who can expect to have to show their ID 10 times a day, be shouted at by Ultra Orthodox Jews whenever they get on a bus, and patted down whenever they enter a building. Meanwhile any Jew who wants to not work, but instead declare that they are studying religion can recieve a healthy paycheck every week no questions asked.

@WONDAWOMAN Israel is by no means an apartheid state you fool. Those Arabs who were willing to live in peace in Israel do so as equal citizens - by declaration & in practice. This is evidenced by the high offices held by Arabs, an Arab Miss Israel, Supreme Court justice, Knesset members. Most Arab countries have totally expelled and banned Jews - so where is your outrage over that? Yes those who want to kill Israelis are kept from doing so. @middletech Actually, in point of historical fact, it was the Arabs who attempted to ehtnically cleanse the Jews from Palestine. They started murdering and massacring not only recent immigrants who had BOUGHT land there or settled in open unarable areas but also Jews whose families had lived their for generations. And now just because the Jews were successful at defending themselves from these onslaughts & all wars & strive for defensible borders you people invert the facts just to blame Isreal.
