Public Service Announcement from the Animated STAR TREK series for the episode "The Practical Joker" written and animated by Curt Danhauser.

Several animated Saturday morning series beginning in the 1970's had a 30-second "message" aimed at teaching the children viewers a lesson, like staying away from downed power lines and not being a bully.

Filmation was actually the first studio to add a moral in the form of an epilogue at the end of Saturday morning cartoon episodes. They made their debut in conjunction with Filmation's Hardy Boys series in 1969, but they didn't become a regular epilogue element until 1972 as part of Filmation's Fat Albert and the Cosby Kids series.

No Public Service Announcements (PSAs) were made for the initial broadcast of the animated STAR TREK series. Just for fun, I decided to create 30-second Animated STAR TREK PSAs with the type of lessons that might be learned from each Animated STAR TREK episode. They were written seriously just like the ones that were seen on Saturday mornings in the 1970's and 1980's, but when viewed with today's sensibilities, they will probably seem quaint and perhaps humorous. • I learned my lesson!

  • If just one person learns the lesson not to play dangerous practical jokes, then I've done my part! ;-)

  • That's right, Kirk IS a jerk!!!

So why didn't the original cast do their own voices, like they did on the animated series??

  • LOL This reminds me a lot of Sealab 2021!

  • here's a little fun fact, did you know that this episode from the animated series was the first appearance of a holodeck type program in a star trek series? many people assume that star trek the next generation was the first appearance of the holodeck but that isnt the case. ok, ill shut up now. :P

  • "That was a close call Captain." Will EVERY PSA start off like that?

  • Again, very wise advise. Do not do that. Most intelligent beings will NOT like you.

Alas, if only my laptop would listen! At this very moment it is behaving as badly as the Enterprise mainframe - crazy cursor bounce all over the screen. One time, it even clicked on another vid, one that I definitely did NOT want!!! (Wesley Crusher, acting cute :P )

Hmmm? Maybe - if I replay your excellent PSA a few times it will get the message....

LOL Great voices, for not being the original cast.

  • Awesome show, introduced me to ST when i was a kid back in 85 after watching this and even watched the first 3 movies on VHS i was 4 years old that time and even watched re-runs of the old show. Filmation did a nice job of making Seasons 4 and 5 as animated, M'ress is quite sexy for a feline alien chick. I mean there's just something appealing about alien and cat-women.

  • Do more animated Star Trek PSA's like this! :)

  • LOL! thumbs up

  • That was the animated series
