LPNY Chair, Eric Sundwall, disputes the video made by Dr. Richard Daines, NYS Health Commissioner. Sundwall argues that this particular tax will do nothing to reduce childhood obesity and represents an insidious attitude of social engineering.
@riverlioness any tax levied against the people for any reason besides raise funds, is a corruption.
current tax code has so many incentives to tax people less for "good" behavior, and tax them more for "bad".
the us tax code is corrupt beyond repair, but no one says anything because... are you sure you payed all your taxes? you willing to have tax lawyers figure out that one thing you messed up on and put your ass in jail for it? we all have that one thing, and wont speak out because of it.
Isn't it interesting how a tax can be glamorized as heroic? Taxes go into the wages of politicians. Sin taxes are a perverse incentive to broaden the definition of "sin". I drink alot of soda. I am not fat. An inactive lifestyle is the biggest contributor to obesity.
Not every pepsi drinker is fat. This sin tax would affect thin soda consumers, as well. I seriously doubt, this sin tax on soda will end in NY. Other states will see this as a potential revenue
