I am a purchaser rather than a reviewer, but I thought I'd share my unedited video taken with this camera, hand-held but with my elbows on a windowsill. The zoom is absolutely amazing, in my view, as is the optical image stabiliser. I am a bit disappointed by the fringing I have seen in some shots, and the high level of noise that is in evidence when zooming into the details on iPhoto. At £400, this is an expensive proposition for a PowerShot camera, approaching SLR prices, but I needed a zoom camera so this seemed the logical choice. Also with SLRs, one doesn't tend to get lenses with this range of focal lengths.

I also had a go at taking some stills while I was filming this. You'll easily spot where that was.

For some reasons, the starlings were going mad this morning. Hence this video is largely avian in nature. Also features a crow and a wood pigeon!

  • So far as I can see, there's no port for an external microphone. It may be possible to connect something to the AV sockets on the side.

  • I just got one of these not too long ago do you know if you can you turn down the noise of it zooming and unzooming?

I hate that for when I want just the sounds of the nature around me no the zzzzzzoom lol?

  • @Lauzon12 I think that's just the sound of the motor, and is not therefore adjustable.

  • :O you can take photos while filming ??

  • @Venom3761 Yes, you can. When I did it, I got a freeze in the video, but I think, if one has a fast enough memory card, you can take photos without interrupting the flow. Photos taken when filming are in 16:9 aspect ratio.

  • Is there an optional mic jack? Perfect for listening to the crow on the directional antenna using a directional mic.

  • Its the BIRDS!!!

  • processor in the camera while recording the flow puts the still image in the video with shutter effect and a little time stops on the image you shooting, that's a feature but not a bug of the memory card writing performance.

  • wheres the photos you took? id love to see some samplles
