Right Lane: Scott Kalitta Runs 4.791/308.00, Now #4; No Prior Run

9:40 PM Last round, Sipple took out the timing reflectors, so neither run counted. Kalitta bypassed fuel check last night, so that aborted run did not count either. He had to at least make a run and pass weight and fuel checks to get into the field. He did that with ease, hiking the front wheels a few feet in the air and running right down the groove and into the top half of the field. Sipple lost traction before the 330-foot marker, making him the first-alternate.
Left Lane: Tim Gibson Runs 10.224/85.19, Now #16; Best prior run: 8.061/100.67, Was #16
Right Lane: Louie Allison No Time, Now #15; Best prior run: 8.001/87.52, Was #15

When Sipple failed to make the 16-car cut, Allison pulled out of line. Gibson shook the tires hard and he lifted.
Left Lane: Todd Paton No Time, Now #14; Best prior run: 7.808/100.84, Was #14

Paton made his burnout, backed up, and sat there for a bit before shutting it off.
Left Lane: Tim Cullinan Runs 10.949/79.70, Now #5; Best prior run: 4.861/252.05, Was #5
Right Lane: K.C. Spurlock Runs 10.156/88.78, Now #7; Best prior run: 4.898/246.21, Was #7

Two pairs left...Josh Starcher and Mitch King already having decided to skip this round. Two hard launches, four spinning tires before the 330-foot markers. The track temperature is 81 degrees, by the way.
Left Lane: Clay Millican Runs 5.178/189.31, Now #2; Best prior run: 4.736/280.95, Was #2
Right Lane: Bruce Litton Runs 4.737/308.92, Now #1; Best prior run: 4.721/307.79, Was #1

Last pair, hoping to show how it should be done. Millican was quicker to half track, but his header flames went out just before that point and Litton made another strong run, quickest of the round.
