Father goes crazy and tries to drowns the son. Mother is getting possessed by the mother in the upstairs room. Listening to the mother's music box, and the mother is in a trance (pardon my spelling).

  • I know your comment was 7 months ago, but since you were searching for 25 years I thought you might still be interested....I just watched this on Netflix streaming, so you could find it there. I understand its on DVD now, too.

  • I think the dad jumping off the diving board, flying through the air doing a belly flop, and subsequently staring through the broken glasses is a foreshadowing of his own death--flying through the air, face first into the windshield. What do you think? Maybe I'm wrong.

  • It's creepy how Karen Black gradually turns into Mrs. Allerdyce. This scene and the funeral scene as scary as hell.

BTW: If you watch the funeral scene (Oliver Reed's nightmare) you can see a brief glimpse of Karen Black and how she looked after she completely changed into Mrs. Allerdyce. You have to watch really carefully, it's as the camera pans the mourners. Added creepiest to an already spokey movie.

  • @DemonoidPhenomenon1 I was looking for this movie for about 25 years, and the boy is the same as the movie Ben. thanks for the info.

  • @sandro322 Yes, it is the boy from "Ben." His name is Lee Montgomery and he is one of my favorite actors. His performances are great in both "Ben" and "Burnt Offerings."

  • why did he do that? what happened to him?

  • this is where i first saw the movie when i turned to it tonight, it had to be the scariest part i ever saw!

  • always doing that..............

  • my brother was like that..................

  • @Erock23432 I love Karen Black . I was paying tribute to the stars that have passsed away. No need to be sensitive.
