The goal of the tobacco companies is to cast doubt on whether smoking causes lung cancer etc... This is the same tactic used by big oil in regards to global warming.

Yes tobacco companies are contemptible. It is easy the gather statistics comparing smoking with lung cancer. This is very easily measured and tested. It is impossible to argue that the same is true with something as complex and little understood as climate science. Therefore your analogy is flawed.
