Check out this amazing clip of tobacco institute PR spin from 1982 -- it all sounds strangely famliar to the language used on the war against global warming science.

  • It all sounds strangely familiar to.... DeSmogBlog:

Founder John Lefebvre was arrested by FBI and charged with 'conspiring to promote illegal gambling by transferring billions of dollars of cyberspace bets placed by U.S. citizens with offshore gaming companies'.

Ironically, DeSmogBlog's favorite tactic is to claim scientists and policy analysts who disagree with alarmist global warming theory are funded by "dirty money"....

  • Well isn't this a good thing? After all, this tactic didn't work very well for the tobacco industry.

  • The goal of the tobacco companies is to cast doubt on whether smoking causes lung cancer etc... This is the same tactic used by big oil in regards to global warming.

  • you obviusly wernt listening

  • Interestingly the tobacco industry is also responsible for the denial of global warming

  • Yes tobacco companies are contemptible. It is easy the gather statistics comparing smoking with lung cancer. This is very easily measured and tested. It is impossible to argue that the same is true with something as complex and little understood as climate science. Therefore your analogy is flawed.

  • Spelling error famliar . correct errror and delete this comment Brian SmokingIsStupiddot.

  • awesome. everyone should be reminded of this.

  • The war on tobacco is all about how to get fewer people to smoke without losing tax revenue.

  • No kidding!!
