Cover version of classic by Brenda Holloway (who also co-wrote the song) and later on an even bigger hit for Blood, Sweat & Tears, this is a vinyl stereo track from her 1969 Ranwood LP "I'll Save The Last Dance For You". Music arranged and conducted by Gil Askey.

  • Thanks for uploading this, wally1435. I've loved the B,S&T & Brenda Holloway versions for years but this is my first time hearing Damita Jo's rendition. There's something magical about 40's & 50's singers covering (then) contemporary material from the 60's/70's, when they get it right. It's as if they give the tunes a sort of legitimacy that they didn't have before. Not only vocally but with the arrangements as well. Thanks again for sharing this gem!

  • You're welcome, glad you enjoyed it - thanks for your comments.

  • Ooh, a tripple combo here. Jo, Gil & a Motown song. Love it. 5*

  • I think she did it very well, too. Thanks for the rating/comments.

  • She put some jazz in it, nice touch! RIP Damita!

  • @totaly52 Yes she does

  • She sounds like Nancy Wilson.

  • It´s all honey. Never knew Damita Jo - other than as a album title from Janet Jackson - until now - just found this now trough Candi Staton´s cover (nice clip of her). Better check the original from B. Holloway - her I know, from other songs, both Motown and Philly I think. Anyway - can understand why Janet named an album after Damita Jo - such solid quality! Of course the musicians/musicianships too - wow!

  • That is some awesome s___ right there. This apparently is a cover of the Blood Sweat & Tears version of this song, released a year earlier; which was an Al Kooper arrangement, sung by David Clayton-Thomas.

  • I had no idea this existed! Girls Rock Harder!
